Like the single dong of the one o' clock church bell our summer has come and gone. Although the sky is still bright blue, the air is crisper and the moon visible before the kids fall asleep. The changing season is calling us back in to routine.
As we travel south on US31 we discuss the plans for fall therapy, sports, and preschool. We detour past the school to find out who this year’s teachers and, perhaps more importantly, classmates will be for 1st and 3rd grade. We drive through campus to confirm, yes, Kevin’s students are settling back in to the dorms. Certainly this is an introduction to an exciting new plot and we will all make the most of school’s mandatory schedules. Anticipation aside, this vacation, this summer, this chapter is most difficult for me to close. Push the porch swing. Blow the bubbles. Call the neighbors out. Light the bonfire. Grab the beach towels. Please could we read it one more time?
Not tonight, we need to watch this sun set.
