The Name Game

Thankfully, some of you have offered to help us with the research phase of our quest for the perfect baby name.  I figured I must share some of our criteria so you don't throw out your favorite names in vain.  I do tend to overthink things, yet believe that choosing our baby's name is a very important responsibility.  While I'd like to stick with my little plan here I am also willing to look beyond this list if there is a name out there that just feels right!

For now, here's what we are thinking...
~ A two syllable first name
~For a boy name, we prefer it end in the letter N
~We almost exclusively consider girl names that end with N or the long E sound
~We prefer to find a girl name that begins with an A (the short A sound), K (or C with a K sound), L, or E
~I'd love to find another great G (with a hard G sound) name for a little boy, but not a G name that would likely be shortened to Gray. We also like Ks, Ls, Es, and Cs for boys.
~No names that start with J or end with M
~No A names for a boy or G names for a girl
~Our favorite names tend to have Scottish, Irish, or English origins
~Must be either a strong boy name or obvious feminine name, not unisex.
~A name with meaning matters.

So, that's it.  No problem right?  There has to be a perfect name waiting for our baby!
Ready, set, brainstorm.
Oh, and...

  1. 1st thought: boy- Corbin (it follows the rules) You have a lot of rules! :) As I try out more names on your rules I will let you know! ;)

  2. Adelyne :) Oh this is fun...but man the rules are tricky.

  3. I read the rules, but too bad I am throwing this one in anyway! What about Garret or Ansley?

  4. this is going to be tougher than I thought...
    Kendra or kendi

  5. I love our Adalie (Ada-lee) means noble one

  6. my niece's name is Kailyn. I love picking names. But I already have the next four picked out for us...hehehe(not like we are having four more:O)

  7. My favorite boys name is Nathan. I think that fits the rules.

  8. I really like Kelsey and Kyleigh for girls names.

  9. Judging from when we compared lists last time, I know there were many similar names on our "like" lists. So, I will put on my thinking cap and try to get creative without giving away my names that are sitting in waiting.
I know though, no matter what, you guys will find the perfect name! :)

  10. I was going to suggest Adelyn or Adeline for a girl, but I see that someone beat me to it. :) (And neither or these follow rule #1).

I love the name Gabriel for a boy. There's a good strong "G" for ya!

Sorry I'm not much help. Our own babe doesn't even have a name yet. I guess we have the next month to figure it out! :)

  11. I don't know that it follows all your rules, but I have always loved Bennett. I tried DESPERATELY to get use it for Jonathan but Chris really didn't like it with our last name.

  12. Michelle, I had an A name on my list for quite awhile, but I scratched it when thinking back on a conversation we had pre-Gibson b/c I was sure you were set on it for a girl. Do you remember what it was??? I can't wait to see what you pick in a few short weeks!!!!!

  13. I just thought of a few more:

    Ethan- Long lived
    Evan- God's grace
    Colin- Young creature :)
    Cayden- Companion
    Brayden- Brave
    Ian- God is gracious

    Allie- Happy, lively, merry
    Alyce or Alice- Noble, exhaulted
    Chloe- Blooming
    Kaitlyn- Little darling

  14. Boys - Casey, Charlie, Colby, Grant, Evan, Kayden, Kingston, Landon, Logan

Girls - Abby, Abigail, Adele, Alice, Allison, Amelia, Andrea, Carly, Chloe, Carolyn, Cassidy, Colleen, Kylie, Lainey, Leslie, Lexie, Lauren, Lily, Lucy, Emily, Natalie

  15. These don't follow all the rules but they are G names. I really like both Grant and Graham.

  16. After reviewing all the names suggested by all your friends I like Brayden and Adelle the best. ;)

  17. Hi Katie,
I didn't know you were expecting again, congrats! Here are some thoughts on names, good luck!

  18. What about Cameron or Kamryn? I'm still thinking......

  19. Since you know he's a boy now, I was thinking that Griffin would fit very well with you G-end-in-N name scheme for the boys. :)

Good luck! I'll be praying for you, your family, and your precious baby boy.

  20. I think wierd. Sometimes.
You guys have been on my mind to a very large degree. We love ya and we're praying!!!
Anyway....I have been writing names down. Josh has a middle name of J. Simply J.
So I came up with a combination name for my new great nephew....
    Kevin K. Lee Meyering.
    Who cares if it's different.
    I like it!
    K. Lee is for Katie Lee and...well....Kevin is self explanatory (sp)
    Love you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for taking a moment to comment. I love to hear from you!
