Home "Tweet" Home

According to Pregnancy Weekly, “Around the fifth month of pregnancy, the "nesting" instinct can set in. This is an uncontrollable urge to clean one's house brought on by a desire to prepare a nest for the new baby, to tie up loose ends of old projects and to organize your world. Nesting brings about unique & seemingly irrational behaviors in pregnant women. They have also reported doing things like taking apart the knobs on kitchen cupboards, just so they could disinfect the screws attached to the knobs. Women have discussed taking on cleaning their entire house, armed with a toothbrush. There seems to be no end to the lengths a nesting mother will go to prepare for her upcoming arrival.”

Well, I might have been a bit slow to catch on this time but here in my 7th month of pregnancy my nesting instinct has kicked into full gear! It started while I was laying awake in the camper this weekend thinking about what would happen if the baby were to be born in the next 24 hours. SCARY!!! We had a camper to tear down, closets to organize, a hospital bag to pack, a nursery to complete, a cradle to dig out & clean, etc...etc...etc...

I came home Sunday with a plan to tackle one room each day each this week. Irrational maybe... I washed every wall, floor board, ceiling, shelf, knick-knack, window, curtain, towel, sheet, rug and more. I had to laugh about Pregnancy Weekly's mention of taking apart the kitchen. Yes, I took every single dish out of our cupboards and washed them. I also lined everything with contact paper so our dishes wouldn't touch the wooden shelves. YIKES! It is quite possible that I kept the Spic & Span company in business this week with all the product I used.

I could go on, but I better not because I have Christmas cards to address and a freezer to fill with fresh homemade meals before I go to bed tonight - HA! The most ironic thing of all is that I am sure I will have to re-do most (if not all) of this cleaning before our baby finally makes his/her appearance (which will likely be weeks after our anticipated due date)!

Showers of Love

It was special to be able to put together a bridal shower last weekend for my friend Michelle. I would love to make a career out of creating shower themes, invites, and favors.

We had a yummy breakfast at Arnie's Restaurant.

The "cake" was made out of towels and decorated with the flowers Michelle will be using in her wedding.

Now I am having fun with the planning of an upcoming baby shower for Annie and her "sweet pea" who is due in October!

The Good Kind of Mail

While we were camping this weekend the mailman slipped a package between our screen & front door. It took us a while (and a visit from a neighbor) to discover it there. This mail is just what I have been looking forward to getting for quite some time now...

Clean Up Time

This photo of Anne Hope's toes says a lot about our weekend camping adventure!
Our site was not the beautiful Michigan beach sand that we were spoiled by in Pentwater. The combination of black sand and intermittent rain showers made for a messier than expected vacation. Even the kids commented, "This is a very dirty place!" However, it was fun to explore a new beach, walk the pier, visit a WWII submarine, and spend time away together.

The Beginning of the End

It is exciting to mark the beginning of our baby's third trimester of development! Really, I can't believe how quickly the time has gone to this point. (Hopefully, I am still thinking that ten weeks from now - smiles)! From now on I will be visiting my doctor every other week as he continues to monitor just how large this "not-so-little" baby is growing to be!

Kevin has begun to feel a bit of a crunch on his time for planning & building the nursery. This is the room so far...it will be fun to post some pictures as we progress.

We are also much more settled on our name choices. We have chosen a girl name for sure - yeah! Our boy name has been narrowed down significantly - a few variables remain that may impact our final decision. (Hmmmm...what names will our other expectant friends & family members snatch up before November)? For those who are wondering, we will not be using Gavin's first choice names.

Each day will continue to be marked with anticipation as we look forward to another new beginning with our littlest family member!

Welcome Home

I believe this to be a day worth celebrating! HA! I got my computer back today - FINALLY! It has a brand new hard drive, and by the time I head to bed tonight hopefully I will have all of my files and programs re-loaded. Pretty ridiculous how we rely on technology 'huh?

Feeling a Bit "Green"

I was scanning some of my favorite blogs and came across this site created by some amazing bloggy artists. Ruby and Roja are doing a give-away to design a blog site that is "uniquely you!" I searched through their portfolio ~ loving their designs~ and wishing enviously that this list maker's landscape was a bit more individualized!

Live!

Thanks to the generosity of a good friend, we had a fantastic time last night at the Unity Music Festival! The kids finally got to hear tobyMac in person and it seems it was everything they hoped it would be.

We couldn't resist buying the perfect souvenirs for Gavin and Anne Hope.

The family sitting near us had several young children. All of the kids danced & sang through the entire concert. During the concert someone came up and said to me, "Your son knows EVERY single word or every song!"

Better Than Candy

I just love all the fresh fruit options in the summer time. Recently the kids and I picked loads of blueberries with my mom & gram. The blueberries were so big and blue they practically fell off the branches, into our buckets, as we walked by. Since our picking adventure we have enjoyed blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes, and blueberries in our cereal. But, our favorite blueberries of all seem to be the bowls full that are frozen and ready for us to pop in our mouths at any time. The kids love them! In fact... they really think they are candy!

Would the Happy Couple Please Stand

Having recently begun a friendship consisting of a few emails, phone calls, and one group date, Kevin invited me to be his date for a co-worker's wedding. I was glad for the opportunity to spend time getting to know him better.

During the reception guests were encouraged to participate in a game. Instead of a dollar dance, individuals could pay to have another couple's names added to a raffle. Each time the bride and groom smooched, in response to clinking glass, they also drew a name of a lucky couple to stand and mimic their over-the-top, newlywed kiss.

Who knows what kind of lunch break conversations between Kevin and his co-workers preceded this date, but the guys certainly had an impression about our relationship status. One jokester added our names to the drawing. Unaware that we were included in the game, we were caught completely off guard when the bride called out "Kevin & Katie, please stand and show us your kiss!"

Seriously????

It's a bit unfortunate that we were both too red faced and nervous to remember much about our first kiss (Kevin's first ever...)! Thankfully we had another, bit more private opportunity, a few days later ~ and now a lifetime to keep practicing. It was only a short year later when we relived the public kiss in front of our own wedding guests!

As our 8th anniversary approached this month, it was fun to think together about our first kiss. We were reminded that we may still owe someone a long overdue "THANK YOU!"

This post has been submitted to Scribbit's August Write Away Contest "First Kiss."

Baby Love

We were thrilled to have another opportunity to see our growing baby in ultrasound! It was really special that the kids were able to go with us and begin to understand a bit more about what is really happening in my belly. Their comments are priceless...
Gavin noticed right away that the baby wasn't dressed "Naked Baby! Naked Baby!" Anne Hope replied, "Baby's swimming Gavin!"
"Yeah, well when we go to get our pictures taken mom makes us wear clothes!"
I explained to Gavin that the baby doesn't have any clothes yet, but we will dress her/him after he/she is born.
"Oh! So, that is why the doctor has to be right there to quick put the clothes on the baby before anyone sees him naked."
Oh dear....

(Sorry... it is difficult to show a clear photo of an ultrasound picture, but this is a profile picture with the baby's hand up by the mouth)

I remember when we were first expecting Anne Hope I wondered how I would have enough room in my heart to love another baby as much as I loved Gavin. It didn't take long to figure out that is not a problem at all. Seeing this beautiful little one yesterday, and finally getting a profile visual, is just another way I have filled my love bank for this baby! Today I think about each movement (and kick) with new hope and purpose after yesterday's glimpse inside. Every child is his/her own unique miracle and I can't wait to meet this new babe.

"Tru" Fan

At our house we have some BIG tobyMac fans! The kids have been listening to the live cd on repeat for weeks! Last night they decided to put on their own concert. They carefully dug through the dress up box looking for just the right hats to look like tobyMac. This exclusive, in home concert specifically featured Anne Hope's favorite tobyMac song, rapped by his son Truett (TruDog). I guess these two are "Jesus Freaks for real!" We better get them to a concert soon...

Fun in the Sun, FOR SURE!
