The Countdown Begins

Anticipating Christmas day is most lively with little ones! With all their excitement it is necessary to have a reminder of the number of nights until Christmas. However, I discovered today that not only do we have a countdown we have an entire daily routine to follow. Hmmm…maybe I should have picked just one tradition for advent?

We already celebrate each passing day with:
a magnetic picture countdown,
a paper chain countdown,
candles,
the Jesse tree,
and a chocolate chart.

The conundrum is that if I add anything to this year’s routine it will likely be remembered and expected again next year. Yet, when I heard this new idea I could not resist...

I wrapped up 24 of our favorite Christmas books. Each night before bed the kids will unwrap a story for us to read together. What a fun way to spend time together and to be sure that all of our favorite Christmas stories are heard.

I would love to hear about your fun activities for keeping up with the Christmas calendar countdown. And if you did not already have your own tradition, feel free to give one of ours a try!

  1. I love the idea of wrapping up the Christmas books but I am sure I do not have enough... I didn't even realize they made that many. :) Keep up the great work!

  2. That is the coolest idea, I may have to start a little late. Don't have the time to get them ready before tonight! I made an advent calendar this year, with little bible verses, they love! Thanks for the compliment about my blog!

  3. LOVE this idea as well! But like the first reader we don't have enough--yet! I just might have to hit up the sales this year after christmas :)
